Player Profiles–Park Chu -Young and Lee Dong-Gook
For details of this amazingly quick striker, check this out, as well as a recent photo.
He’s going to figure prominently in the starting lineup this summer, as he’s done so well in recent friendlies. Partnered with Lee Dong-Gook, a prototypical ‘finisher’, they may tear holes in France if they’re given decent service.
Lee-Dong-Gook would have featured in Hiddink’s ‘02 squad, but couldn’t make it due to injuries, although this article would suggest that he just didn’t think he would be able to deliver at that time–a bit overhyped, if you will. Keep in mind, the guy was only 22 years old in 2002. His injuries led to a goalless stint at Werder Bremen, but it’s never been easy to break out in the Bundesliga.
He’s since developed into a great finisher, something their b-squad lacks. Advocaat has wisely taken each of these successive friendlies as serious games, and the whole team seems more and more confident each game.
