Korea/Togo–the last word

Although most Koreans likely had their eyes glued to the tube, there were still a number of people found on the street walking casually in no particular direction… did they think the game was a foregone conclusion? Were they just apathetic concerning the game itself? Or did I get the schedule wrong?
I saw two teams displaying a lot of nervous energy for the first twenty minutes or so. Togo was far from the most skilled African nation we’ve seen so far, but they did well to hold their own until they slid home that beautiful goal at the 31st minute. I’m sure a lot of people stood up and took notice after that.

At the half, Ahn was substituted in and there was a palpable difference in the Korean attack–they all played much better, and even playing a man down after Abalo tackled Park during a breakaway, Togo still kept their composure and even managed a couple of excellent stabs at tying the match.
In the end, both teams won. Togo put together a respectable showing and scored their first ever World Cup goal, and but for the man disadvantage, might have come away with a draw or even a win. For the Koreans, it’s a vital 3 points especially after the France/Switzerland draw.
As for the other game, I felt that France had the better game for the most part, although their tactics have to be called into question for the simple fact that they never scored! They seemed content to continually attempt a neatly threaded ball through the defense, and the Swiss did their jobs well enough to deny them any such chance. They also hit the post once and crossed a few dangerous balls in front of Barthez, who was never really tested all night.
I think at one point, Sagnol and Henry were the only players to even attempt a shot on net. A nice setup from Saha to Dhorasoo near the end might just help Domennech figure out the lineup for the next game. Note to France; shoot the damn ball sometimes!

hey geneva get lost with your stereotype, all Italians pick up your girls as they are so bored with you cheesy guys… What s the issue, you have complexes or you are just too bored in your small insipid country watching your team playing while getting asleep…? Hahaha…

Frenchies have not scored a goal since their 98 win. Korea had a strong showing in Asia and it was their first time win in European soil this time in Germany. That isn’t bad. But given S. Korea’s history of the World Cup in Europe, they will have to play to death like it’s the finals. I’m really looking forward to France vs. S. Korea. It should be interesing. USA loss was very devastating. Maybe this is the reason why we have a predilection toward non-soccer sports. We need a new coach. Get us Hiddink or someone like him!
And yeah, we fat burger eating Americans can certainly kick your wine drinking Savate French Pussies either manually or by blasting your Chirac loving tiny country! So shut the fuck up before your whole country insurrects. And then we’re gonna have to save your asses again like we did in WWII. So, shut the Fuck Up!!

I like the French (people, and team)…but that’s not why I’m posting.
The reason why American soccer isn’t so strong, I’m guessing, is because most of the top players (discounting baseball and basketball because I don’t think the soccer skills transfer as much) go into American Football.

Sean let me give you a free course, first learn history better, American soldiers were not the only one landing on Normandy’s beaches, they did it along with the English and the French resistance troops and actualy most of France was delivered by the french troops backed up by allied troops & weapons since uncle sam was mainly heading toward Germany … And if you want to play the history card let me remind you that American independence was fought by French armies as well. So you are pointless in posing yourself as the only nation taking part in the fight and you are pointless anyway because this blog is about football. And it’s a fact that your US team is a shame that took it hard up the ***. You suck at football (maybe you are confused with soccer and football Hahahah in Europe we call it football and that is the original name), I am sure that my great grandmother would do better than your whole country. Watch my country crush yours tomorrow evening… Italy 5 - 0 USA
eat me fat greasy ignorant burger; Europe beats the **** out of you and the marvelous thing about it is that you don t realize it yet… That’s because of people like you that most people around the world hate your country so much.

Sean, ss for the US coach thing , ask the French to lend you Aime Jacquet the coach that brought them to final victory in 98. First he ll start by explaining you the game rules. Hehehe…

Guys, this is soccer and all in the spirit of fun. No need for bashing back and forth. Good luck to both Italy and the US.
BTW Alessandro, Sean was referring to France not Italy.
Let’s change the tone of this forum now!

Aless sissy my girl:
Stick to your own language as the word “only” was never utilized. And I’m not referring to your Benito Mussolini lovin’ communist infested Italy, you invidious moron. I mean France. What are you? Are you a mixed breed with French bloodline? Are you bangin’ something French? Well, I could care less.
But you do make a valid point in that this is about soccer and that this is not about world wars or world dominion. I started that. hehehehe… So in that sense, we should remain cautiously phlegmatic.
I am hopeful that US will perform better after that embarrassing 3:0 loss. They just played without any inspiration. Now given the history of the World Cup, US has never performed well. US did somewhat better in 2002, but didn’t Italy lose out to S. Korea in 2002? Introspectively, soccer is technique tinged with much accidental good fortune.
Aless sissy, I don’t know about 5:0 loss to Italy. But that may be the case. Look at Argentina vs. Serbia-Montenegro. I thought it was going to be 7:0 against S-M. But keep in mind that Italy is no Argentina by any means. In hindsight, the odds most certainly do favor Italy. But we remain optimistic.

All of you are dreaming. Italy will never make it to the finals and neither will S. Korea. It would be fun to Korea Republic actually beat France. French are so arrogant, indeed. Sean, cut it out with the French bashing and Italian bashing. Alessandro, US did play a major role during WWII against the Nazis on behalf of France. Everyone, shut up as this is about soccer and not about the past. It is about now.

well, im french and quite tired to hear im arrogant. may one of you read the french blogs? Everyone here only hope to join the 1/8, no more. But I suppose french people are all arrogant, english people look like rabbits, americans have no brain…This is not my opinion (may I?) but for sure, football brings a few “clichés”, and a poor basic racism.

Well said, Reno. It’s just a game where the world joins in. Soccer’s never been big in the US. Racism you’ll find everywhere and this is all in the spirit of fun. It always makes me smile to see other players from other nations helping each other up by lending their hands. It is our chance to be whole and one during the World Cup. So please do not post any more racial comments on this site and make this a legit World Cup discussion site for all. Sean, your comments are a bit over the edge just like Alessandro’s comments. Keep posting but let us post legitimately!
Cheers to the world!

I don’t know how many soccer fans here, but I’m really proud to be an American as they were down 2 men. Playing with 9 men versus Italy’s 10. Hats off to our goal keeper Keller for being the Man of the Match! Italy down played the US thinking they’d win 5 : 0. McBride had blood on his face after an elbow from opposition. Obviously with our battle against terror, it brings precarious and possible harm to our players in Germany. USA is the only team without a mark so others don’t know where they are in the locker area! I’m proud that we weren’t defeated by the Italians who’d always down play our soccer capabilities with their constant hubris. US showed a lot of heart and soul. They will play Ghana who pulled an upset today against the Czechs. If US wins against Ghana and Italy defeats the Czechs, then the US goes to the next round! Be proud of our colors today as US has never won on European soil. This is bitter sweet as this is similar to a win for us.

I’m always in favour of the underdogs doing well, and last night certainly proved to be a night for the underdogs! Ghana were superb in both attack and defence (unbelieveably great goalkeeping!) and USA scraping by with 9 men and managing to maintain a draw. This is what makes for great sports and behind great sports is always PASSION. The better teams always play with passion and it is what is sadly lacking in a lot of teams with a winning tradition. That added with a disrespect for their opponent makes for suprising wins (and losses).
Tonight’s matches: Australia vs Brazil and Korea vs France should make for another night of great sport. This World Cup has been truly one of the best in terms of how well the teams are playing and just putting in 110% into the game. Personally, I shall be supporting the underdogs - Australia (believe it or not) HAVE managed to beat Brazil in the recent past and Korea are playing better than France, so these teams do have a slim chance of doing better than what a lot may think.

Mohammed.
Korea sucked, they got lucky that’s it. France led most of the game and scored two goals but one was denied. Korea showed no skills, this tie is France’s loss not Korea’s wictory. Korea do not deserve to qualify, In the first game they got lucky as well finishing the game 11 vs 10 players. If fortune turns around, they’re lost. My bet France and Swiss in the round of 16.
Ps: better have no hair than looking like the Koreans’ one… hahah

mmm you’re right about the hair, Alessandro. Maybe you could lend them some of your pomade? (BTW have you moved out of Mama’s house yet?)
Mohammed, I’m also rooting for the Reds but let’s face it, their defense is shabby. Advocaat has done a horrible job with the back line, they refused to mark their men! Thank goodness we played France, who can’t seem to buy a goal these days…hell, they couldn’t score another, not for all the grease in Italy!
Having said that, the minute super-sub Ahn came on Korea actually started to go forward and create chances, which is something they can do, even against better defenses. I hope he plays more, since he seems to galvanize the offense a bit. But damn, the defense….
What to do about their lack of defensive sharpness? I know…’sandro, let’s organize a cultural exchange: Why don’t you and several of your countrymen come teach the Korean defenders how to high tackle with the elbows, this being a specialty of the azzurri. (USA Italy was a bloody disgrace…the guy needed lots of stitches.)
And while you’re at it, maybe you can also teach them how to grease their hair into an oil slick, a l’Italiano~

Damn, can t u stop all these stereotypes? What happened to you? Did your girlfriend ended up cheating on you with an Italian?? Do I ask you why the hell is your country so slow and so boring (like your national team) and how do you manage to screw any language you borrow from your neighbours because of your hilarous accent?
So give us a break with your obsessive stereotypes and your Italian nonsense bashing.
As for the harsh way of playing I believe that Switzerland is doing fine as well and have a look at Australia and Iran they have great kung-fu players that would fit well Asian style.
For the Korean defense tips maybe u’d better send Swiss players as they all play defense.
Italy - USA, Formal stats: The USA made more fouls than the Italians (USA two red cards)

oh! oh! Alessandro’s one of those forward-thinking mamone who thinks stereotypes are wrong and cruel!
You wouldn’t know it, judging from what you’ve said in previous posts.
I repeat: move out, stop masturbating in mama’s apartment every night. And meh, stop dripping grease all over this weblog too. It’s been fun sparring but now it’s getting tedious since you’re not offering very much by way of a challenge.
Where are the real football posts tho?

You are so pathetic… Well I don t need to be as rude as you are to keep on posting. So yea Italia is all about Mafia, olive oil, black hand, slick haircut and we are the only ones to cheat on the football field (at least there’s some substance/culture/passion/drama in Italy to be harnessed and makes it easy to talk or joke about it unlike on your insipid side)… Now that you have offset your inferiority complex let’s talk football. Perhaps you are looking for something to post, since your swiss team is so underachieving minded (it hasn t produce anything worth talking about in the whole football history)and as you sound so desperate that somebody finaly pays attention to your bloody dull country you end up bashing non sense like a clown. So congratulation you have existed (at least and at last) the time of this blog. Now you can crawl into other blogs and try bashing other teams as well maybe you’ll find an audience.
Arrivederci stronzo!

Alessandro, you forgot to mention the Pizza and the pasta ![]()

aaaawwww…poor mamone. ’sandro, you actually sound hurt! Damn this is funny again!
So you think I’m RUDE and should maybe start crawling into other blogs to start bashing teams? Are you seriously so stupid that you don’t realise that this is what YOU have been doing, here?
Which is why I’ve been amusing myself by bitch-slapping the grease from your ignorant, racist shellack-ed head?
Yeah, you probably are that dumb. Hell, you can’t even figure out that I’m not Swiss ): )
You see what happens when you don’t leave mama’s house, cazzo?
Right, enough with you I’m bored again. Where’s the football talk?

Gosh…
Yea yea you hurt me so much… LOL ;-)! keep on cursing if it’s how you amuse yourself. Football, what could you possibly talk about, all you keep repeating is grease, grease and, masturbating in mama’s house like a retarded freak?? Anytime I start talking football u don t respond. And no, sorry but I can t figure out you aren t Swiss, esp if you keep posting from Switzerland with such name…Haaaa Luke, Luke, Luke (nodding the head desperately)…However to bring you back to life I’ll give you a taste of Mediterranean warmth and prodigal generosity. I invite you to join us for a few weeks in Italy to give you insights on our country so that you can stop being ignorant and ridiculous. By the way, I ll teach you how to get a descent haircut and how to play football game … And my mom will cook great pasta for you … hahaha…
PS: bring one of these amazing big bells from Switzerland so that you can cheer Italia’s football victory with us!

Well… I have something to add to this. Togo did play well and as a Korean, I’m quite mad. We could have done better but the referee was just to Freaken’ stupid to catch all the mistakes… Next time, let’s get a different Ref’.
