Day 1; Great Expectations
What a great way to start a World Cup; say what you like about Senegal: France four years ago, it was a shock, but it was hardly as entertaining.

My take on it? Germany looked impressive up front, but their defending was way too exposed–Klinsmann needs a sweeper or a stopper because 2 men in back just wasn’t cutting it last night. Can you imagine what Brazil would do with opportunities like that?
That being said, both the first and last goals of the game are contenders for the top 10 highlight reel. Particularly Frings strike, which was as beautiful as any I’ve ever seen, and something that other teams should take heed of; the right shot from any player will go in the net, it doesn’t matter what team you’re playing against. Some shots are simply unstoppable.
Re: Ecuador: Poland. I predicted that neither of these teams would make it out of the group, and I still stand by it. From where I stand, it’s Ecuador:Costa Rica that will be the key game of this group. Poland was unlucky to hit the post twice, but Ecuador looked much better on the pitch by comparison.
