HONG KONG — Denmark rallied past World Cup qualifier South Korea 3-1 Wednesday to win the Carlsberg Cup.

Croatia, a World Cup qualifier, defeated Hong Kong 4-0 for third place.

South Korea opened the scoring in the 14th minute on a header by Cho Jae-jin. Lars Jacobsen tied it just before halftime and Jesper Bech and Michael Silberbauer added second-half goals.

Denmark is ranked 13th in the world and South Korea 29th.
A tough loss for the boys to the gritty (I know Denmark hears this adjective often, but it’s true) Danes, but fear not, there are a lot more friendlies to come.

Recently on PSB and MBC, they’ve been re-running older Korean international games, including a lot of the qualifying wins for World Cup ‘98. It’s amazing the physical differences between the present team and that one–it was still coached by a Korean, and his name escapes me–they were a far more potent attacking squad, and also a lot taller.

In their semi-final loss to Germany the last time around, that height differential made all the difference in the long-ball contests, with Germany having a field day doing lateral passes along the wings against the flow of traffic.
